Classes: Uganda is the pearl of Africa, meaning when you come to Uganda you have almost visited the entire Africa. We have over fifty tribes in the country with their different traditions. However these different cultures are mostly represented through music and dances. This is why Rockies Troupe has taken time in research and practicing all these cultures, keeping them live through performing arts. Come and learn how to dance in Rockies Troupe, welcoming environment with expert young trainers and have fun! We offer a range of evening, weekend and daytime dance courses at all levels. From East to West, North to South of Uganda and beyond, whether you're a complete beginner or looking to learn new dance moves, we've got a dance course for you.

A dynamic and vibrant class that combines music, instruments and dance influence, the movements, energy and music will leave you energized and rejuvenated. The aim behind the training and its written teaching method is to give people a key understanding of African dances and Uganda, East Africa in particular. There are many different dances in Sub Saharan Africa but there are rules and principals that all these dances share: rhythm, strength, isolation and relation to the floor. With this African dance training you will learn popular and traditional African dances like Bakisimba Nankasa Muwogola from Buganda Kingdom in central Uganda, Kitaguriro from Ankole, Near West, Kizino from the far West, Adungu dance from West Nile, Lunyege Ntogoro a courtship dance from Tooro kingdom, Nalufuka Tamenaibuga from the near East, (Busoga Kingdom) Akadodi (Imbalu) from the far East across the Nile in Bugishu, Larakaraka from the North, Bwola from Acholi, indeed the list is endless. We even go beyond Uganda to Rwanda, Burundi, South Africa, West Africa among other regions.

Dance styles and classes; African dance styles at times turn out to be like fitness classes, these classes are for all people, adults, the young people and elders are all welcome

Details we break down moves from these dances in order to target particular muscles like abdominals, calves, pectorals, gluts, biceps, etc. we have selected out best dances in Uganda and Africa to bring them to life. It’s a pleasure for your ears to discover new sounds and rhythms. This can also be a really good basic course if you want to dance to a high level in African dance styles. The Training is suitable for all ages and genders! It is all about enjoying the process to discover new cultural horizons and be fitter!

Training sessions Step1 to step3: these sessions are less intense and more relaxed of the Training. This is a soft introduction to African rhythms and dances. Typical positions as the essential knees bent are introduced! We work to reconnect the feet to the earth and the spirit with the flesh, most of these sessions are taken either bare foot or in canvas shoes. These sessions are about your inner body sensing, embrace yourself. Then you are in what we call the internal mode driving the external movements.

Training sessions.

Steps4 to step6 These are the most advanced and intensive. It compiles high energy moves, jumps and running steps. A complete African dance class with a clear understanding of your body in motion. Musicality, call and response principal of any African music and dance. These sessions will lead you to express African dances like never before. It’s what we call the explosion mode. You can think about these trainings as levels of progression into the program. However all modes and sessions can be repeated for a long or short period and can be taken in deferent order, according to your goals and your need. You can even stick to one mode! The usual levels: beginners to advance exist within each mode.

The training program We warm the body up slowly with a gentle preparation focusing on breathing and isolations. We go through every muscle, from head to toes, targeted with deconstructed moves selected for the training. During this training, you will enjoy a routine that incorporates the material and technique developed previously.

The Training Concept We want you to learn African dances, understand African music and develop qualities that will benefits you for life! Have you ever wondered how dancers get their shaped bodies? Did you ever ask yourself why the African dancers are always enthusiastic! Well don't keep asking yourself, try to dance African for real and you will know.

The benefits within this training, no matter if you are looking to feel or look better or if you aim to become a professional dancer, this training is a perfect mix between a dance class and a fitness class, you get the best of the both world. Traditional or popular African dances train musicality, rhythm and develop excellent physical power, stamina, balance, muscles coordination and isolation. We are not all professional dancers, but yes indeed we can all enjoy the benefits of the dynamism within African dances, reaching all your muscles even the forgotten ones. You don't need to be African or Caribbean to enjoy the benefits of African dances, which provide the perfect training for your mind and body!

We use live drums, instruments and singing. It's a pleasure for your ears to discover new sounds and rhythms and recognize their particularities. Rockies Troupe helps students to blossom within the program with skills and confidence due to the experience we have in this field. This can also be a really good basic course if you want to dance to a high level. The program is suitable for all ages and genders! It is all about enjoying the process to be a good dancer, instrumentalist, singer, fitter and finally reconnect with yourself and create a harmony around you!

We have our standard timetable, but we can also always adjust a few areas depending on the time and availability of our clients who comes in to learn. To us, teaching others our cultures is an enjoyment of life, it’s the only way we can export our culture and expand its knowledge across borders. The more skills we give out, the more we acquire new ones and to us, sharing is a must, its one thing we love practicing everyday when we can afford.
