Anthony Wandera

Gender: Male
Talent Area: Traditional instrumentalist
Family Background
Anthony was born in Bugonza Village, Kaliro District (Eastern Uganda) and raised by his maternal uncle after his parents separated during his infancy. He grew up in an extended household of over 10 members. His uncle, who earned a modest living from making and selling traditional musical instruments, did his best to provide for Anthony’s education, though often at schools with limited resources.
From an early age, Anthony was taught the art of making and playing traditional instruments—a skill that became his ticket to greater opportunities. Due to his growing skills in playing instruments, he joined a community dance troupe - Nkalu Artists - through which he later became part of the Rockies Organization.
How Rockies Organization Stepped In
Anthony joined Rockies Organization in December 2018, recommended by the directors of Nkalu Artists, who recognized his talent and sought for him the further artistic development and educational support they were unable to provide. Rockies provided him with access to better education and platforms to nurture his skills. He has since completed his A-Level studies and is preparing to join a higher learning institution.
Talent, Uniqueness & Achievements
Anthony is an accomplished player of xylophones, tube fiddle, bow harp and flute. Anthony is also skilled in making and repairing traditional instruments, making him an indispensable resource for the Rockies Organization. He combines technical mastery with a deep understanding for Uganda’s musical heritage.
Aspirations
Anthony aspires to become a music teacher, dedicated to empowering young people in his community to use music and dance as tools for personal and social transformation.
