Family Background
Doreen was born and raised in Abwokodia Village, Usuk Subcounty, Katakwi District in Eastern Uganda. At the age of seven, however, her family relocated to Mbale City. She is the third-last born in a household of ten members — her parents and seven siblings.
Her father, an engineer, was the family's primary breadwinner, while her mother was a housewife. Although gainfully employed, her father carried heavy responsibilities, not just within his immediate family but also across the extended family. In addition to supporting his children’s basic and educational needs, he helped other relatives with school fees, which placed a significant strain on the family's finances.
As one of the youngest children in the family, Doreen often found herself at the back of the queue when it came to school fee payments. Her fees were frequently delayed, and as a result, she occasionally missed classes.
Doreen’s passion for the performing arts began to shine in 2018 while she was in Primary Six. A cultural troupe had been formed in her neighborhood, and she eagerly joined during her free time. Her enthusiasm, energy, and talent quickly stood out. Recognizing her potential and the need for a more structured platform for her growth, the troupe director recommended her to Rockies Organization for better mentorship and broader exposure.
How Rockies Organization Stepped In
In March 2019, after a successful audition process, Doreen was officially admitted into the Rockies Education Sponsorship Program. She was enrolled at New ABC Divine Foundation Primary School, where she completed her primary education.
She later joined Uplands High School, Mutundwe for secondary education. Following Rockies’ relocation to Nakawuka, she was transferred to Emirates High School, where she completed her O-Level Education. She is currently in Senior Five at St. Andrew’s College, Ssanda.
Since joining the program, Rockies has provided her with comprehensive support — including school fees, accommodation, meals, healthcare, and continuous mentorship in both academics and the arts.
