Mercy Maria Namubiru

Gender: Female
Talent Areas: Traditional Dancer, Singer

Family Background

Mercy was born and raised in Kansanga, a suburb of Kampala City, as the only child of her parents. At the age of nine, her life took a turn when her parents separated. Following the separation, she was sent to live with her maternal grandparents in Mutundwe–Kirinnyabigo, another suburb of Kampala. There, she became part of a crowded household of ten - herself, her two grandparents, and seven cousins.

Both her parents eventually remarried and began new families, leaving Mercy with a lingering sense of displacement, as though she belonged to neither home. Her father works as a driver, while her mother runs a small restaurant. Although they continued to offer some support, their limited incomes and growing responsibilities made it increasingly difficult to care for Mercy adequately. As a result, she frequently faced delays in school fees payments, which often disrupted her education.

Despite these challenges, Mercy discovered her love for performance at an early age. She joined her school’s Performing Arts Club while in Primary Three. In Primary Seven (2018), she participated in the National Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) Competitions, where her outstanding performance caught the attention of one of the adjudicators, who was deeply impressed by her talent. The adjudicator remained in contact with Mercy and continued to monitor her progress.

Unfortunately, after completing Primary Seven, Mercy temporarily dropped out of school in 2019 due to financial constraints. Recognizing the risk of her education being cut short, the same adjudicator connected her to Rockies Organization. Following a rigorous audition process, Mercy was admitted into the program later that year.

How Rockies Organization Stepped In

Mercy officially joined Rockies Organization in 2019. The following year, she was enrolled at Uplands High School in Mutundwe for Senior One. When the organization later relocated to Nakawuka, she was transferred to Emirates High School - Nakawuka, where she completed her O-Level education. She is currently in Senior Five at St. Andrew’s College, Ssanda.

Rockies has since provided Mercy with comprehensive support, including full sponsorship of her education, accommodation, meals, healthcare, and mentorship. Joining Rockies provided her with a safe and stable environment where she could fully concentrate on her education and nurture her talent.
