Family Background

Sandra was born in Nakisenyi Village, Iganga District (Eastern Uganda), and comes from a large family of six children. Her father was a small-scale farmer, and her mother worked as a hairdresser. Although her parents worked hard to provide for the family, they struggled to meet basic needs, especially paying school fees for all six children. As a child, Sandra faced many challenges, including irregular attendance at school due to unpaid fees, uncertainty about continuing her education, and bouts of hunger, often spending the entire school day without food.

In an effort to ease the financial burden on her parents, Sandra joined a local dance troupe that had promised to support her education, provide basic needs, and help develop her growing talent. Unfortunately, things did not work out as expected, and she had to return home.

How Rockies Organization Stepped In

In 2021, Sandra was introduced to the Rockies Organization by her brother, after hearing about the organization’s work supporting talented children. Following her disappointing experience with the previous group, Sandra finally found a true home at Rockies. The organization not only nurtures her talent in dance and singing but also sponsors her education, and provides accommodation, medical care, and other basic needs, thereby lifting a significant burden from her parents. Sandra is now enrolled in Primary Seven at Twinlight Children Centre.

Talent, Uniqueness & Achievements

Sandra is a passionate dancer and singer who brings energy and grace to every performance. She excels in traditional dances from across Uganda, including Tamenha Ibuga, Irongo, and Nalufuka (Eastern Uganda); Bakisimba, Nankasa, and Muwogola (Central Uganda); Adungu (West Nile); and Larakaraka (Northern Uganda). A memorable highlight for her was performing at the Buganda Tourism Exhibition in Mengo, where she was exposed to a world of culture and opportunity she had never imagined.

Aspirations

Sandra dreams of becoming a professional beautician, specializing in makeup artistry and hairdressing. She is determined to use her skills and talents to uplift her family and support other vulnerable children in her community.
