Organisation Profile

Rockies Organization, a grassroots non-profit founded in 2012 and officially registered in 2014, is committed to delivering high-quality performing arts and education programs for children and youth in Uganda. Our initiatives include a talent academy for performing and creative arts, education sponsorships across primary, secondary, vocational, and tertiary levels, and performances by the Bantu Cultural Troupe.

We partner with schools to provide certified trainers who support performing arts teachers in implementing the new competency-based curriculum for lower secondary schools. Additionally, we offer technical and material support to enhance performing arts programs, such as performance clubs, within schools.

The Rockies Organization operates a hybrid structure, with the Troupe serving as a social enterprise that trains certified trainers for our school programs. This platform offers practical experiences for trainees from the talent academy, creates alternative employment pathways for youth, and generates sustainable income for our non-income generating programs. The Troupe recruits talented young people from primary to university, empowering them to use their artistic talents to finance their education, creating a self-sustaining cycle of empowerment and growth. To date, we have sponsored over 200 students to attain formal education.

Rockies dreams of establishing a chain of schools merging high-quality performance and creative arts training with formal education, akin to performing arts high schools in developed countries. Committed to education and skills development, Rockies will strive to facilitate formal education through the arts, expanding to conservatory-style learning in dance, music, theatre, film, and more, while maintaining traditional education for producing well-rounded Ugandan citizens.

Our Vision

A generation of talented, skilled and self-driven young people transforming society.

Mission Statement

Nurturing talents and developing skills of young people through performing and creative arts and education programs in Africa..

The Problem we address

  • Quality Education is expensive and out of reach of many Ugandan children and youth, despite of the existence of Universal Primary Education and Universal Secondary Education. Many children and youth in Uganda lack the resources to pursue quality formal education despite being naturally gifted in the performing arts.
  • The scarcity of performing arts training institutions for aspiring young artists results in underdeveloped skills and a lack of professionalism in Uganda's performing arts sector.
  • Schools lack the technical and financial capacity to integrate the performing arts component of the new competency-based curriculum for lower secondary schools.

The Solutions

To address these challenges, Rockies Organization undertakes the following interventions:

  • Bantu Cultural Troupe: Identifies, develops, and commercializes talent, enabling talented but underprivileged young people to co-fund their own education.
  • Bantu Performing Arts Academy: Provides artistic and entrepreneurship skills training and professionalization in the performing arts.
  • Schools and Community Outreach Programs: Supports schools in implementing the performing arts component of the new competence-based curriculum for lower secondary schools.
