Clement Aniku
Gender: Male
Talent Area: Dancing, Playing Instruments
Family Background
Clement was born and raised in Nunu Village, Arua District, in the West Nile region of Uganda. He grew up in an extended household of ten members, comprising two parents, five children, and three other relatives. Providing for such a large family was a significant challenge due to limited household income. His father engaged in small-scale business activities, while his mother was a full-time housewife.
Because of these financial constraints, Clement and his siblings attended Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools, which were often under-resourced. Even the subsidized fees in these public schools were difficult to pay consistently. He was often sent home to clear outstanding balances, resulting in frequent interruptions to Clement’s schooling.
After completing Senior One, Clement was at risk of dropping out altogether as his parents could no longer afford the rising costs of secondary education. However, his exceptional skill in playing the bow harp earned him admission into Rockies Organization, where he received full education sponsorship, enabling him to continue his studies.
How Rockies Organization Stepped In
Clement joined the Rockies in January 2024. At that time he had completed Senior 1, but was not sure whether he would join Senior 2 later that year. In that very moment, Rockies Organization was looking for disadvantaged children who could play the bow harp. He passed the practical assessment with flying colours thereby joining the organization.
Once he joined Rockies, Clement embarked on a journey to develop his talent in playing musical instruments. He further set his mind on learning cultural dances so that he can become an all-rounder performer. More importantly, he was enrolled in St. Andrew’s College, Ssanda and is currently (2025) in Senior 3.
Talent, Uniqueness & Achievements
Clement is a gifted traditional dancer, and instrumentalist. He excels at dances such as Ekitaguriro, and Runyege-Ntogoro(Western Uganda), Zulu Dance from South Africa, and Kadodi (Eastern Uganda).
Beyond his dance abilities, Clement is steadily developing his instrumental skills. He has currently mastered the bass and rhythm bow harp and is eager to learn additional instruments.
Aspirations
Clement aspires to become a renowned music producer specializing in production of culturally-inspired rhythms. This way, he hopes to popularize Uganda’s music rhythms on the global music market.
