Family Background

Moureen was born in Kigamba Village, Masaka District (Central Uganda), and was raised by her single mother in a low-income household. Her family faced significant challenges, particularly in affording school fees and coping with the long distances she had to walk to school. Despite these hardships, Moureen’s passion for education and the performing arts remained strong. From a young age, she showed a special talent for music and was an active member of her school choir.

How Rockies Organization Stepped In

In 2011, one of the pioneers of Rockies Organization noticed Moureen’s potential during a Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) competition at the National Theatre and reached out to her mother. After several discussions, her mother was convinced that joining Rockies would offer Moureen a valuable opportunity to nurture her talent and access better educational support. Moureen officially joined Rockies Organization in 2013. Since then, she has steadily progressed in her education while developing into a skilled performer in both music and dance. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Makerere University, where she continues to grow as both a performer and a scholar.

Talent, Uniqueness & Achievements

Moureen is a powerful and passionate singer whose remarkable voice has earned her a place on some of Uganda’s most prestigious stages. She has performed for high-profile audiences, including His Majesty the Kabaka (King) of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, and the President of Uganda.

In addition to her vocal talent, Moureen is an accomplished dancer. She excels in a wide range of traditional Ugandan dances, including Bakisimba, Nankasa, and Muwogola (Central Uganda); Adungu Dance (West Nile); as well as Tamenha Ibuga, Irongo, and Nalufuka (Eastern Uganda).

Aspirations

Moureen’s goal is to become a professor of music, combining her love for performance with a passion for teaching. She also hopes to become a businesswoman, using entrepreneurship to support others and create opportunities for the underserved.
