Mr. Pius Bugembe Abooki

Board Member

Pius was born and raised in Uganda, East Africa. He attended Kanziira Muslim Primary School, Kigalama C.O.U. Primary School, and Bujuni Boys Primary School. He completed his high school education at St. Kirigwaijo Senior Secondary School also in Uganda. He sat for my high school exams at St. Edwards Bukuumi Secondary School since St. Kirigwaijo had not secured its examination center number.

He joined Rakai Teachers College in 1989 and completed his Uganda Teacher Certificate in primary education in 1990. He taught at Kyamaganda Boys Demonstration Primary school for one and half years. He became Head-teacher of St. Paul Kitovu Boys (now mixed) Primary School from November of 1991 until 1995.

 He won a full academic presidential scholarship from Manhattan College in 1995. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in English and Secondary Education and a minor in Religious Studies. He got another scholarship for graduate school earning a master’s degree in School Administration and Supervision in 2002.

He have been teaching at Cardinal Hayes, Bronx, New York for the last 26 years and using his free time to work on his music. He serves as liturgist, a community liaison between the school and the outside community. He is also the hospitality lead as well as the Stage Crew moderator for all functions in the school.

Besides his love for music, he is a community oriented individual and very much interested in Africa’s affairs of democracy and development. He is very patriotic though not a politician. He is a former president of the Uganda American Association of Greater New York (UAAGNY) 2005 to 2018. He served as the organizing secretary of African People Alliance (APA) 2006 -2012 and the United African Coalition (AUC) 2012 to 2016 in order to empower and promote leadership in the New York City Diaspora African Communities.

He is a full member of Saints Philip and James Catholic Church as Youths Director, Religious Education Director and the Music Ministry’s Director. He has been serving at this Church since 2011. He is currently the President of Bunyoro Kitara North America Association (BKNAA). He is a board member of Bantu Cultural Troupe.
